TITLE:  After Fear

Scripture: Judges 6: 1-25

I.   THE PARALYSIS OF FEAR

The name Gideon means “hewer” or man of (physical strength).

Two things stand out about Gideon’s “visit:”

1.      He did not know it was an angel.

2.      It was not “an angel of the Lord” but “the angel of the Lord.”

Gideon is struggling with two main problems:

1.      The problem of (discouragement)

2.      The problem of (inadequacy).

Five principles about the tyranny of fear:

1.      Fear disregards God’s (plan).

2.      Fear distorts God’s (purposes).

3.      Fear discourages God’s (people).

4.      Fear disbelieves God’s (promises).

5.      Fear disobeys God’s (principles).

II.   THE PRESENCE WHICH DESTROYS FEAR

Gideon is given two assignments:

1)      Tear down the (altar of Baal), cut down the (Asherah pole) and build an (altar to God).

2)      Fight the Midianites with (300) men.

The advice to Gideon makes no sense. But it is not our responsibility to understand how God is going to keep His Word and accomplish His work. It is our responsibility to (obey Him) and to do what He commands.
