7th Anniversary Presentation

7TH ANNIVERSARY PRESENTATION

October 9, 2011

During this week, OVCF celebrates her 7th anniversary. We want to thank you for being a part of our church community, and for helping us celebrate this weekend.  The elders decided this would be a good time to bring you up to date on what has been happening this past year, as well as what we hope will bring a fruitful and enjoyable 2012.  They have asked me to be their spokesman.  J

 As many of you know, we moved into this building almost a year ago to the day.    We envisioned adding to this current building sometime this past summer, but circumstances arose that have caused us to move slower than we originally thought. We will keep you updated.

 I have asked Carol Sturgeon, our church Treasurer, to give an updated report of where we are today.  As Carol comes, we would like to thank Carol, MJ, Amy, Dawn and Barb for being conscientious and honest in keeping our offerings and books in order.

 We believe that a church should be mission-minded, both here and abroad.  Due to your generosity in giving, OVCF was able to help several ministries, missions and individuals.  We were able to help Revive Liberia several times with needs they had ($1300).  We also support a Liberian pastor with $600/year. Emily Pavich, Dave & Carrie Schenck’s daughter, is going on a medical mission’s trip to Honduras in January.  We were able to contribute to her trip ($500).  Jimmy Maxwell has desired to go full-time for Campus Life, and needs support.  We have committed to sending $100 a month in support.  This past summer we were able to support our young people attending Hilltop to the tune of $800.  We were also able to help a family or two from our church family with some bills.  We do not say that to received pats-on-the-back, but so that you can see we have not been stingy, or hoarded our money.  {More information is available as to our financial picture by contacting the church office}

 Uppermost in most peoples’ minds is the projected building addition.  Wheels were set in motion and a dream was presented.  Little did we know that the state would require a septic system that would come back with a price tag of $120-123k.  The Building Team and the leaders did not feel that was a good direction to pursue. We would like to thank Terrie and the Building Team for all their hard work.

After a short break, the elders asked that I spearhead the Building Team into dreaming and investigating possible options.  None of us like being in two or three different worship times, and we have felt the results of that in attendance and offerings.  The current Building Team of Doug Tucker, Madi Arnett, Mark Truesdel, Jerry Sturgeon, Carol Sturgeon (as the FT representative), Phil Eckart, and I have met several times over the past couple of weeks.  We looked into possibly adding on to this current building to the north but ran into having to add bathrooms AND the septic system.  One evening while discussing the situation, it was suggested we consider renovating the other side of this building-the KidMo/youth side.  We would then divide this room into youth rooms for KidMo, Pre-school, and Nursery, and storage.  Further investigation revealed a very doable project, one that would be close to 2000 square feet.  Not only is it doable, it is very possible that we have the money on hand, or close to it, in order for us to begin after the first of the year.  A guesstimate of 3 months for the project to be completed was made.  For that period of time, we will all have to make do with space issues.  This makes upgrading the trailer a necessity. The proposed renovation will get us into one service, and hopefully, also spur us on to further expansion for growth.

 To that end, we would like to issue a challenge.  April 8, 2012 is Easter Sunday.  We would like to have a Special Offering that Sunday to benefit our Building Fund for future development.  We will be reminding you along the way with announcements, visuals, and word of mouth.  Remember the date: April 8, 2012.

 One last item: we would also like to thank Terrie for volunteering to mow the grass this summer.  Each week you came to a nice looking lawn.  He has informed us that we will need to look for someone else for next summer, so if you, or someone you know is, or might be interested in mowing the lawn, please let the elders know.

 Thanks for being here today to celebrate with us.  May God bless you and your family.  May His hand continue to bless OVCF.

 Due to the nature of some of this report, it has been edited so it could be placed on the website for public viewing.  Full report is available from the church office.
