It is going to be another thrill packed edition! (How\u2019s that for click bait).\ud83d\ude0a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Actually, I probably have enough info from the Owen Country Fair\u00a0 to fill a book the size of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. I\u2019m having trouble pairing it all down to a manageable\u00a0 novel but I am going to try my best to do so.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BUT FIRST\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This past Sunday, Aubrey Mangia made her confession of faith and was baptized by her father\u00a0 in the family pool. Aubrey is an 8<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grader at OVMS. Her parents are Tom and Kristine\u00a0 Mangia. Tom works for Catalent and Kristine has been a teacher in the S-OCS system for 22\u00a0 years. What exciting news for Aubrey, Tom, Kristine, younger brother, Jordan, and older\u00a0 brother, Mason. And, of course, what fantastic news for the angels in heaven.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some other news on the OVCF home front:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Congrats are in order for grandparents Jim and Diana\u00a0 Markland. Jett Lewis Markland was born on July 17th at 8:45 am. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 15 oz.\u00a0 and was 18.75\u201d. Congrats to Jake and Brandi Markland and, of course, Jim and Diana and great\u00a0 grandma, Madi Arnett.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pastor Ryan will be out of town this weekend speaking at a Campus Life retreat. Several OVCF people will also be attending: Hope East, Cassie Linville, Hannah Pendleton and Macy Carlson as\u00a0 workers. Anna, Caleb and Rachel East are campers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because Pastor Ryan will be gone, Move Up Sunday for our Kid\u2019s Church has been moved to\u00a0 August 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We will be recognizing our 6<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grade grads at second service (who will now get to\u00a0 listen to me on Sunday morning\u2026no comments from the peanut gallery are necessary \ud83d\ude0a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and\u00a0 the younger students will move up to their appropriate class in Kid\u2019s Church.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here is a question for you: Do you know who the teachers are who volunteer to teach\u00a0 our young people or work in the nursery during the adult worship? See how many you\u00a0 can come up with, write them down, and the MM during the week of August 4th will give\u00a0 you that list. A virtual high five goes to all the winners.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And now\u2026the moment you have all been waiting for: <\/span><em><b>more Owen County Fair results. <\/b><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A lot of\u00a0 emphasis is put on the animals but did you also know there is an exhibit hall filled with\u00a0 projects?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cecilia Arnold: Champion and First place ribbon in Intermediate Division for her Decorate My Life project<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucas Arnold: 1st place ribbon and Reserve Champion (Jr. Division) for his LEGO project<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marci Arnold: Honors ribbon for her Under the Sea LEGO in the mini 4-H division<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amelia Biggs: Blue ribbon Champion for cupcake decorating (Rumor has it dad was the\u00a0 taste tester).<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Anna East: Grand Champion for embroidery, outdoor photography; Champion for apple\u00a0 jelly preserves; 1st in Fine Arts and creative writing; Reserve Champion for her earrings<\/li>\n<li><span>Caleb East: Reserve Grand Champion for pottery; 1st in Fine Arts; Reserve Grand\u00a0 Champion in creative writing; 1st in origami <\/span><\/li>\n<li>Rachel East: Champion in embroidery; 1st in outdoor photography; Champion in creative\u00a0 writing; Reserve Grand Champion in creative writing<\/li>\n<li>Meilynn Hess had an astounding number of entries which included, but were not limited\u00a0 to: Senior Reserve Champion in photography (color and black and white); Champion in\u00a0 Floriculture; Grand Champion Garden; Decorate My Life Grand Champion; Fine Art\u00a0 watercolor and pencil; baked goods (blue ribbon) and many more.<\/li>\n<li>MiaRose Hess: Senior Reserve Champion for Garden; blue and honor ribbon for\u00a0 Floriculture; Decorate My Life; needle work; preserves; baked goods; photography, and\u00a0 many more.<\/li>\n<li>Marla Lippert: Blue ribbon for what I would consider one of the most unique displays. It\u00a0 was like knitting with sparkles on it. Her mom said each of the sparkles was hand\u00a0 installed. He also won 1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Gilt and 2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in\u00a0 Barrow for Swine.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2756 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eli Wood: Grand Champion, Dairy Heifer; Champion, brown Swiss; Champion\u00a0 Intermediate Showman; Reserve Champion, Dairy Steer<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2756 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MiaRose Hess: Master Rabbit Ambassador and Reserve Overall Top Dog<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2756 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meilynn Hess: Senior Rabbit Ambassador; Reserve Grand Champion for dog agility and\u00a0 3<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rd <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for cat knowledge<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2756 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both MiaRose and Meilynn won awards for rifle shooting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you can see, there were a lot of young people and awards for the week. I know I left some of\u00a0 the awards out due to space. What I tried NOT to do is leave anyone out who participated or\u00a0 received an award. The people listed are the ones I was made aware of. If I forgot someone,\u00a0 please let me know.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2024 Owen County Fair is history on the calendar but in the lives of these young people and\u00a0 their parents and others life goes on. Congratulations to any of you who will be moving on to the State Fair. And who might that be?
