\u201cPrayer cannot truly be taught by principles and seminars and symposiums. It has to be born out of a whole environment of felt need.\u00a0 If I say, \u2018I ought<\/i> <\/b>to pray,\u2019 I will soon run out of motivation and quit; the flesh is too strong.\u00a0 I have to be driven<\/i><\/b> to pray.\u201d<\/p>\n

I.\u00a0\u00a0 CAUSES FOR A LEAKY ROOF<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Turn to Matthew 6.\u00a0 Why are our prayers unanswered?<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Prayer becomes a (formal exercise<\/span><\/strong>) rather than (free expression<\/span><\/strong>).\u00a0 [v.5a]<\/li>\n
  2. Prayer becomes a cause for (pride<\/span><\/strong>) rather than (talking to God<\/span><\/strong>). [v.5b]<\/li>\n
  3. Prayers were long, filled with verbiage, (necessary words<\/span><\/strong>). [v.7]<\/li>\n
  4. Prayer is a front for (false spirituality<\/span><\/strong>). [v.16]<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    II.\u00a0\u00a0 FIXES FOR A LEAKY ROOF<\/h4>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Some vital characteristics about prayer;<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Don\u2019t be (hypocritical<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
    2. Don\u2019t use a lot of (repetition<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
    3. Don\u2019t harbor anything (against anyone<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n

      A quick look at the Model Prayer [Verses 9-15]:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Take it (personally<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
      2. Remember who is THE (priority<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
      3. Focus on His (agenda<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
      4. Pray for your (needs<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
      5. (Forgive<\/span><\/strong>) others.<\/li>\n
      6. Fight off (temptation<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
      7. Leave it in His more (capable hands<\/span><\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
