I.\u00a0\u00a0 THE CHALLENGE THAT CONFRONTS US<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u201cChristians are supposed to be in the world but not of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThe Christian is to be in the world, but God help the Christian if the world gets in him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0Here is the reality: The Christ-follower is not someone who lives in isolation. He is in the world, though he is not of it, and bears a relationship to the world.<\/p>\n

\n

A look at salt:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Salt was to act as a (preservative<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
  2. Salt was used for (flavoring<\/strong><\/span>) and making food palatable.<\/li>\n
  3. Salt was used to (create thirst<\/strong><\/span>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n

    A look at light:<\/p>\n

    \u201cI am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.\u201d John 8:12 The purpose of light is (illumination<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

    \n

      \n
    1. Followers of Christ are to be a (city on a hill<\/span><\/strong>).<\/li>\n
    2. Light in a home.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n

      \u201cNot to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.\u201d Ps.115:1<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      II.\u00a0\u00a0 THE CAUTION THAT COUNSELS US \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

       <\/p>\n

      \u201cHypocrisy is anything whatever may deceive the cleverest and most penetrating man, but the least wide awake of children recognizes it, and is revolted by it, however ingenuously it may be disguised.\u201d<\/p>\n

      \n

      Two qualifiers in verses 2-4:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. (Don\u2019t<\/span><\/strong>) toot your own horn.<\/li>\n
      2. (Do be<\/strong><\/span>) silent about your giving.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

         <\/p>\n
