I.\u00a0\u00a0 THE FOUNDATION OF THE GREAT EXCHANGE \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\n

The heart of man\u2019s spiritual dilemma is that we are incapable of overcoming the (sinfulness<\/span><\/strong>) which separates us from a (holy God<\/span><\/strong>).\u00a0 The common misconception is the man is inherently (good<\/strong><\/span>) and able to pull himself up by his own bootstraps.<\/p>\n

\n

Here is the essence of what Paul is saying in verses 15-17: with our without the Law, no one is saved who has (not believed in Jesus Christ).<\/p>\n

\n

Verse 16 is about the clearest and most pointed reference to justification by faith in the Bible.<\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0 THE EXPLANATION OF THE GREAT EXCHANGE \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Paul uses the Law as a stepping stone. It was actually an agent which showed him his (sin<\/strong><\/span>) and led him to the gospel. He died to the Law and stopped trying (to please God<\/strong><\/span>) by keeping the Law. He exchanged his damning pursuit of (self-righteousness<\/span><\/strong>) for the (life-giving grace<\/strong><\/span>) of Jesus.<\/p>\n

\n

What does it mean to be \u201ccrucified with Christ?\u201d Paul is actually using very vivid language to describe our (union with Christ<\/strong><\/span>). All who place their faith in Christ (die to self<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

Growing in Christ isn\u2019t about making (ourselves new<\/strong><\/span>); it\u2019s about realizing that we have been made new (in Christ<\/strong><\/span>); it\u2019s about living out who we are.<\/p>\n
