Scripture: Judges 6: 1-25

I.\u00a0\u00a0 THE PARALYSIS OF FEAR \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The name Gideon means \u201chewer\u201d or man of (physical strength<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

Two things stand out about Gideon\u2019s \u201cvisit:\u201d<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He did not know it was an angel.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It was not \u201can angel of the Lord\u201d but \u201cthe angel of the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Gideon is struggling with two main problems:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The problem of (discouragement<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The problem of (inadequacy<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

Five principles about the tyranny of fear:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fear disregards God\u2019s (plan<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fear distorts God\u2019s (purposes<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fear discourages God\u2019s (people<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fear disbelieves God\u2019s (promises<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fear disobeys God\u2019s (principles<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0 THE PRESENCE WHICH DESTROYS FEAR \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Gideon is given two assignments:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tear down the (altar of Baal<\/strong><\/span>), cut down the (Asherah pole<\/strong><\/span>) and build an (altar to God<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fight the Midianites with (300<\/strong><\/span>) men.<\/p>\n

\n

The advice to Gideon makes no sense. But it is not our responsibility to understand how God is going to keep His Word and accomplish His work. It is our responsibility to (obey Him<\/strong><\/span>) and to do what He commands.<\/p>\n
