I.\u00a0\u00a0 THE DIVINE POWER \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sin holds us (captive<\/strong><\/span>). We were meant to fly with the (wings of grace<\/strong><\/span>), but we have allowed sin to keep its grip on us and hold us down.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.\u201d I John 1:9<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBut if anybody does sin, we have one how speaks to the Father in our defense-Jesus Christ the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.\u201d I John 2:1b-2 (NIV)<\/p>\n

II.\u00a0 THE DRIVING QUEST \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

We are to \u201csupplement our faith.\u201d Other translations say \u201cadd to our faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Virtue<\/strong><\/span>)- means \u201cmoral power or energy.\u201d \u201cgoodness\u201d\u00a0 Paul chose a word that has primarily to do with something (we are) before it is anything (we do), look, or feel.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Knowledge<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Self-control<\/strong>)- It is more than keeping things under control (in check<\/strong><\/span>). It is actually (humility<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 See Romans 6:12-13]<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Steadfastness<\/strong><\/span>)- endurance.\u00a0 Christianity does not provide a supernatural cure for suffering; it provide a supernatural use for it.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Godliness<\/strong><\/span>)- It is being Christlike in (character<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Brotherly affection<\/strong><\/span>)-<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Love<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n
