I .\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 COMMENDATION \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Pergamum known as Asia\u2019s greatest city. Why?<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A huge library of 200,000 handwritten volumes.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Official center of (Caesar worship<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

There were 4 main deities of Greco-Roman world:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Athena- goddess of (wisdom<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Asklepios- god of (healing<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dionysius or Bacchus- god of (wine and revelry<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Zeus- (king<\/strong><\/span>) of all gods<\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CRITICISM \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Two groups were mentioned:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Those who hold to the teachings of Balaam. Find his story in Numbers 22-25.<\/p>\n

\u201cYet they are the ones who, at Balaam\u2019s advice, incited the Israelites to unfaithfulness against the Lord in the Peor incident, so that the plague came against the Lord\u2019s community. Num.31:16 (HCSB) \u00a0The Peor incident is found in Numbers 25 where the Israelites \u201cbegan to whore with the daughters of Moab. These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.\u201d<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Those who hold to the teachings of the Nicolaitans.<\/p>\n

III.\u00a0 CORRECTION<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cYour flip and callous arrogance in these things bothers me. You pass if off as a small thing, but it\u2019s anything but that. Yeast, too, is a small thing, but it works its way through a whole batch of bread dough pretty fast.\u201d I Cor.5:6-7<\/p>\n

4 Lessons to learn:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Compromise never (occurs quickly<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Compromise always lowers (the standard<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Compromise is seldom (offensive<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Compromise is often the (first step<\/strong><\/span>) toward total disobedience.<\/p>\n
