I.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 THE PROGNOSIS \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sardis was actually two cities:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One at the top of Mount Tmolus (1500 feet in elevation)<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One in fertile Hermus River Valley<\/p>\n

\n

Survived and recovered from Cyrus and Alexander. Greatest enemy was one they could not recover from: (an earthquake<\/strong><\/span>) in AD 17.<\/p>\n

\n

Three separate spiritual strands lived in Sardis:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Caesar<\/strong><\/span>) cult<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Housed major temple devoted to worship of (Artemis<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Worship of (Cybelle<\/strong><\/span>), a local nature goddess.<\/p>\n

\n

When is a church dead?<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it is content to rest on its (past laurels<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it is more concerned with form than (spiritual reality<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it focuses more on social ills and politics than (changing people\u2019s hearts<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it is more concerned with (material things<\/strong><\/span>) than spiritual things.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0 THE PRESCRIPTION \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

He tells them 5 things they need to do:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Wake up!<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Strengthen<\/strong><\/span>) what remains and is about to die.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Remember<\/strong><\/span>) what they had received and heard.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cKeep it\u201d or (obey it<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Repent<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

III.\u00a0 THE PROMISES <\/strong><\/h4>\n

He makes three promises:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The promise of (eternal righteousness<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The promise of (a place in heaven<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The promise of (Jesus Himself<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n
