Scripture: I John 2: 1-6

Truth: our salvation is the most important thing about us. If we have it, we are wealthy beyond belief. If we don\u2019t, we are most to be pitied.<\/p>\n

\n

I.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SPEAKING IN OUR DEFENSE \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Read 1:9. It is important to remember that God will (secure our future<\/strong><\/span>) by forgiving us of our sin because He is (faithful to His promise<\/strong><\/span>) and because of the historic event on the (cross<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

Verse 10 comments:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No sin? We make Him out to be a (liar<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The NT makes it clear that Christ-followers are no longer (slaves to sin<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 Turn to Romans 6:12-14. (p.943)<\/p>\n

\n

We have an Advocate. Translates from the Greek word which means \u201cone who comes alongside.\u201d\u00a0 In his Gospel, John used the same term. Translated (Helper or Comforter<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

Propitiation? Means (appeasement<\/strong><\/span>) or satisfaction. John is saying Christ\u2019s sacrificial death on the cross satisfied the (demands of God\u2019s justice<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 The OT word is (Mercy Seat<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

Romans 3:23 says we have all sinned. Verse 25 adds \u201cwhom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood.\u201d<\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0 EVIDENCE IN OUR DEFENSE \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Becoming a follower of Christ produces a desire to obey\u2026There is a (submissive will<\/span>).<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

An unchanged life is a sign of an (unchanged heart<\/span><\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\n

Real knowledge is not knowing something, it is in knowing Someone, a Person.<\/p>\n

\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Becoming a follower of Christ produces an ability to love\u2026There is a (Caring Heart<\/span>).<\/strong><\/p>\n
