I.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 THE LIMITS OF TRUTH<\/strong><\/h4>\n

These two brief letters of John emphasize the priority of (truth<\/strong><\/span>). Jude, although not written by John, speaks about the need to (contend for the truth<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Truth limits (love<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

The reference to elder was not so much age but (spiritual oversight<\/strong><\/span>) of the church.<\/p>\n

\n

It is important to realize love is good, real good. But truth should never (be compromised<\/strong><\/span>) for the sake of love.<\/p>\n

\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Truth controls our (walk<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 THE LIMITS OF LOVE \u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In verse 7 John removes the imposter\u2019s white fleece and reveals their true identity: (deceiver and antichrist<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 They are part of the Gnostic heresy. Matter was evil and spirit was good. Therefore, they accepted some form of Christ\u2019s deity, but denied his humanity.<\/p>\n

Two applications:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Love and truth can (coexist<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 \u201cOur love grows soft it is not strengthened by truth, and our truth grows hard if not softened by love.\u201d John Stott<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We need both (discernment<\/strong><\/span>) and (discrimination<\/strong><\/span>) to capture life and happiness.<\/p>\n
