JONAH\u2019S ANGER<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Jonah wasn\u2019t afraid of failure. He feared (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">success<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This was deeper than \u201cit displeased Jonah exceedingly. A more accurate translation would be \u201cit was evil to Jonah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">See description of God he gives in verse 2b. BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT JONAH WANTED.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Jonah can\u2019t (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">manipulate<\/span>) God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>II. GOD\u2019S REBUKE<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Several observations:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) God did not respond to anger (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">with anger<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(2) Jonah did not stay (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in the city<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(3) There is a contrast between Jonah\u2019s behavior and the (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">king\u2019s<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">What are real issues in the exchange?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">1. For Jonah, it is (recurring anger) and a death wish coming from his own twisted idea of (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">judgment<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">2. For God, it involves traits like extending (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">pity<\/span>), (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">compassion<\/span>), and (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mercy<\/span>) to others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This book forces us to see our own power struggles with God:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u2022 What has God called us to do that puts us into a contest of wills with Him?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u2022 What challenges has God placed before you that has you running away?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u2022 Has your pride and ego gotten in the way?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u2022 Are there people you resist loving and caring for?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NEXT: Series: Transformed by His Presence<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Sermon: Let\u2019s Get Personal- Matt.4:18-22; Rom.11:33<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SERIES:\u00a0 Transformed By Grace TITLE:\u00a0\u00a0 Misplaced Anger TEXT:\u00a0 Jonah 4: 1 &#8211; 11 (p.775) &nbsp; I.
