I.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 THE PICTURE OF DEATH \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sardis was known as the city of (two locations<\/strong><\/span>). One was at the top of Mount Tmolus and the other in the fertile Hermus River valley.<\/p>\n

\n

Three different spiritual strands thrived in Sardis:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The (Caesar<\/strong><\/span>) cult or emperor worship.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Temple of (Artemis\/Diana<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Worship of Cybele, a local (nature goddess<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

\n

When is a church dead?<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it is content to (rest on its past laurels<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it is more concerned with (form<\/strong><\/span>) than (spiritual reality<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it focuses more on (social ills<\/strong><\/span>) and (politics<\/strong><\/span>) than changing people\u2019s hearts and minds through the life-changing message of Jesus.<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When it is more concerned with (material things<\/strong><\/span>) than (spiritual things<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0 THE POSSIBILITY OF LIFE<\/strong><\/h4>\n

5 moves they must make:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Wake up<\/strong><\/span>). [V.2a]<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Strengthen<\/strong><\/span>) the remnant. [V.2b]<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Remember your (purpose<\/strong><\/span>)! [V.3]<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Keep it<\/strong><\/span>). [V.3b]<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Repent!<\/strong><\/span>) [v.3c]<\/p>\n

Three promises made to a faithful remnant:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The promise of (eternal life<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The promise of a (place in heaven<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The promise of (Jesus Himself<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n
