{"id":8700,"date":"2019-12-30T09:30:44","date_gmt":"2019-12-30T14:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ovcf.org\/ovcf_wp\/?p=8700"},"modified":"2020-01-01T09:50:13","modified_gmt":"2020-01-01T14:50:13","slug":"whatistruth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ovcf.org\/ovcf_wp\/2019\/12\/whatistruth\/","title":{"rendered":"I Challenge You!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>THEME: TRUTH<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>TITLE: What is Truth?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>Scripture:\u00a0 Romans 1:16-17<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>I.\u00a0\u00a0 IS TRUTH REALLY THAT IMPORTANT?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Philosophy which made its way into American culture: (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>postmodernism<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 The basic premise for postmodernism is there is (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>no absolute truth<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 In effect it is saying we can (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>trust our feelings<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In Romans 1:16-17 Paul tells us what truth is. The truth is (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the Gospel of Jesus Christ<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 What is chilling is the effect of verse 18: whenever the truth of God is (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>suppressed<\/strong><\/span>), it always leads to (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>believing a lie<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">When absolute truth departs, everything is up for grabs!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cWe (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>liberals<\/strong><\/span>) champion tolerance, except for conservatives and evangelical Christians. We want to be inclusive of people who don\u2019t look like us-so long as they think like us.\u201d Quote by liberal journalist Nicolas Kristof.\u00a0 (Quoted in <em>Confronting Christianity<\/em> by Rebecca McLaughlin)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>II.\u00a0 IS TRUTH A REALITY? \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Greek word for truth means \u201ca reality that is firm, solid, binding.\u201d\u00a0 Represents the certainty upon which we can rely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">4 distinguishing marks of truth:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Truth comes (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>from God<\/strong><\/span>). \u00a0Truth is (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>divine<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Truth reigns (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>supreme<\/strong><\/span>). \u00a0Truth is (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>absolute<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Truth is (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>a fact<\/strong><\/span>). Truth is (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>objective<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Truth stands as (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>truth<\/strong><\/span>). \u00a0Truth never (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>contradicts<\/strong><\/span>) itself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The Gospel is above all. If it isn\u2019t, then it loses its ability to change lives.
