TITLE: Why Settle for Second?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

I.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 DEFINING THE OLD COVENANT<\/h4>\n

What Paul learned is that a truly perfect, spotless righteousness-the perfect obedience demanded by the law- (was not possible<\/strong><\/span>). It isn\u2019t that the law was (evil<\/strong><\/span>); it wasn\u2019t. The problem lies with the (sinner<\/strong><\/span>), not the law.<\/p>\n

\n

The old covenant was the law given to Abraham and ultimately to Moses on Mount Sinai. It was the (rules and regulations<\/strong><\/span>) the people were required to fulfill and live by.<\/p>\n

\n

II.\u00a0 DETERMINING THE SUPERIORITY OF THE NEW COVENANT<\/h4>\n

A comparison for you to see:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Old=hundreds of detailed and demanding commandments. New=Christ.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Old=Law of Moses. New=Promise of life in Christ.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Old=could not provide righteousness. New=Christ provided it.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Old=temporary.\u00a0 New=permanent.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Old=death and doom on sinners. New=life.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Old=ministry of condemnation. New=ministry of righteousness.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Old=what was coming to an end. New=what is permanent.<\/p>\n

\n

8 distinctive qualities of the new covenant:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It gives (life<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 (v.6)<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It produces (righteousness<\/strong><\/span>). (7a,8-9)<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is (permanent<\/strong><\/span>). (7b,10-11)<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It brings (hope<\/strong><\/span>). (12)<\/p>\n

5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is (clear<\/strong><\/span>). (13-14a)<\/p>\n

6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is (Christ-centered<\/strong><\/span>). (14b-16,18a)<\/p>\n

7)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is energized by the (Spirit<\/strong><\/span>). (17)<\/p>\n

8)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is (transforming<\/strong><\/span>). (18b)<\/p>\n
