\n<\/strong><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to a survey, what one quality are non-Christians and lapsed Christians looking for in a person with whom they talk about faith? 62% say (listens without judgment<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 THE BACKGROUND NOISE<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Standing between Judea to the south (which included Jerusalem) and Galilee to the north (which included Nazareth and Capernaum) was (Samaria<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 To the Jews, Samaria was considered (no man\u2019s land<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 Why?<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The division of the kingdom after Solomon\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The northern kingdom set its capital city as Samaria.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Assyrian army overtook the northern kingdom and intermarried and the people became known as Samaritans.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0 II.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 LISTENING TO THE MUSIC<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jesus bypassed her belligerence because He had this uncanny ability to see beyond (the surface<\/strong><\/span>) and discern what was really (on that person\u2019s mind<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 Jesus saw the hurting woman and knew what she needed. All she (wanted<\/strong><\/span>) was something to save the endless, hot trip to the well. All she (needed<\/strong><\/span>) was the water of life Jesus was offering.<\/p>\n

To put it simply: this woman needed (love<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 Let\u2019s track their conversation.<\/p>\n

How are we as Christ-followers to act? Remember two words: (discernment and judgment<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 They are different. Discernment is the ability to (distinguish what is good and what is not<\/strong><\/span>). Judgment is more of an (attitude issue<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 Discernment requires correct perspective, while judgment requires an attitude of me vs you.<\/p>\n

Discernment is required. I John 4:1 and Acts 20 show us that.<\/p>\n

How does a person listen without judgment?<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It means you (really listen<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It means you (empathize<\/strong><\/span>) with what they have to say.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It means you see through (God\u2019s eyes<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n
