I.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NEWS OF A COMING KING \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Some preliminary thoughts about Mark:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The author is Mark, the cousin of (Barnabas<\/strong><\/span>). He is known for (abandoning<\/strong><\/span>) Paul and Barnabas on the 1st missionary journey.<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Most scholars believe (Peter<\/strong><\/span>) was the real source of the book.<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Written with (Romans<\/strong><\/span>) in mind.\u00a0 He uses the word \u201cimmediately\u201d 42 times. He uses the present tense 150 times.<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Focuses on what Jesus (did<\/strong><\/span>) versus what He (said<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

\n

To Mark Jesus is:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Christ- means (an anointed royal figure<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Son of God- he is proclaiming Christ\u2019s (divinity<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

II.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 THE WORDS OF JESUS \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

What about Jesus\u2019 baptism?<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It inaugurated His (public ministry<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It identified Him with (sinful humanity<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It demonstrated His (approval<\/strong><\/span>) by His Father.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It set (an example<\/strong><\/span>) for us to follow.<\/p>\n

Lessons to learn:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If the Son of God came as a servant, then being a servant is the (highest of all callings<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you are going to be a servant, be sure you (have compassion<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n
