Revenge Is NOT Sweet!

SERIES:  Transformed By Passion

TITLE:  Revenge is (Not) Sweet

TEXT:  I Samuel 24-25 (p.246); Mt.5:38-42 (p.810)

I. CHOOSING THE HIGH ROAD

The desire to strike back not limited to those who are not Christ-followers.  The desire for revenge is often as strong in us as it is in those who have no relationship with Jesus at all.

Engedi means “Spring of the goat”

Instead of (gloating and glorying) over what he had done, David was (stricken).

“persuaded his men” conveys a heated discussion.

II. CHOOSING THE WISE ROAD

3 main players to this drama:

1.  David

2. Nabal- his name means (fool).  Fits him well.

3. Abigail- What a woman!!

What can we learn?

1.   From David: rash reactions never (pay off).

2.   From Nabal: (arrogance) never wins and (insensitivity) loses big time.

3.   From Abigail: (wisdom) never loses.

Psalm 40: 1-3 (p.468)
