THEME: Uncharted

SERIES: Staking Your Claim

TITLE: Who Me? Serve?

Text:  Mt.20:25-28; John 13:1-20

“A Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to no one; a Christian man is the most dutiful servant of all, and subject to everyone.”  Luther

I.    THE FOUNDATION FOR SERVICE

“Being unselfish doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself-it means thinking of yourself less.”

“The difficult journey of life is to move from a selfish heart to a serving heart.”  (Both quotes by Joel Manby in Love Works)

The essence of the Christian faith is not that (we serve Christ) but that (He served us).

It now comes down to (we serve others) because (Jesus served us).

II.   THE MOTIVATION FOR SERVICE

Why do people serve?

1.      (Compassion)

2.      (Guilt)

3.      (Force)

4.      (Pride)

“Jesus is the beginning of service, the foundation and motivation of service, and yet He is also the end of our service-because He is both the example for serving and our highest purpose for serving.” (Creature of the Word-p.74)

Let’s serve with a (servant’s heart).
