The Heart of the Cross

2021 THEME: Life on the Edge

Series: The Agony and the Ecstasy

TITLE:  The Heart of the Cross

Scripture:  Romans 3:9-31

I.    THE DICHOTOMY WE FACE

The cross offends the sensibilities of moral people. Why?

1.     The cross says we are all (unrighteous).

2.     The cross says we are all (helpless).

3.     The cross also says we are all (hopeless).

Only one person who did not find the cross offensive: (Jesus). He was not disgraced by its disgrace. “He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” Heb. 12:2 (NLT)

II.   THE PROVISION WE NEED

“For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.” Romans 3:20 (NLT)

To be point blank: The gospel is good news for fallen humanity regarding how sins are atoned for, how sinners are forgiven, and how believers are made right with God.

The word reconciled means (to be made friends again).
