2025 THEME: Burning Hearts
Title: Justice or Mercy?
Scripture: Leviticus 24-Numbers 10
“No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
I. GOD’S PEOPLE DESERVE JUSTICE
Two motives for doing things: {Source: The Motive by Patrick Lencioni}
-
-
-
-
-
- We want (to serve others), to do whatever is necessary to bring about (something good) for the people we lead.
- We want (to be rewarded).
-
-
-
-
What we (deserve) is nowhere close to (what we get)
II. GOD’S PEOPLE RECEIVE MERCY
Difference between grace and mercy:
-
-
-
-
-
- GRACE is (getting what we don’t deserve).
- MERCY is (not getting what we do deserve).
-
-
-
-
What can Numbers teach us?
-
-
-
-
-
- God is (infinitely concerned) about His people.
- God (numbers and cares) for His people, but they are also prospering.
-
-
-
-
Two things we cannot forget:
-
-
-
-
-
- God is (holy).
- God wants (holiness) from us.
