TITLE: Remembered and Forsaken
Scripture: John 19:25-27; Mt.27: 45-50
I. HIS HEART FOR HIS MOTHER
A typical Jewish man in Jesus’ day wore five pieces of clothing: A (headpiece); (Sandals); an (outer garment); a (girdle); and (undergarment).
“Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.” Lk.2:34-35
Jesus’ words show his (love and honor) for His mother, but also an incredible amount of (forgiveness) for John.
II. HIS HURT FOR HIS FATHER
Jesus was dying as a substitute for others. All our sin was put on Him. All the punishment for our sins was put on His shoulders. The very essence of that was an outpouring of God’s (wrath), something Jesus has (never) experienced before. And in this lies the true meaning of the cross. The word used is (atonement).
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Cor.5:21
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us.” The $2 word for that act is (propitiation). It speaks of an offering made to satisfy God.
