TITLE: Hope
Scripture: I John 2: 18-27
Someone has said, “We can live 40 days without food, eight days without water, four minutes without air, but only a few seconds without hope.”
I. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HOPE
The concept of spiritual hope is like turning on a blazing light in a dark place. Hope immediately illuminates our outlook, uplifts our soul, and produces joy.
The significance of hope:
1. It finds its beginning in the (unchanging God), who cannot speak anything but (truth).
“Why are you downcast, O my soul? And why disturbed within? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him.”
“We have this sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.” Heb. 6:19
2. Hope is a gift of (divine grace).
3. Hope is (revealed) in Scripture.
4. Our hope comes from the (resurrection) of Jesus from the dead and the promise of His return.
II. THE PICTURES OF HOPE
“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Mk.13:32
1) The future hope we have brings us confidence- It is a relationship of (love).
2) The future hope we have brings us confidence- It is a relationship of (trust).
“Hope is one of the theological virtues. This means that a continual looking forward to the eternal world is not a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is to do.” C.S. Lewis
