Walking with God

2024 THEME: Run with the Horses

SERIES: Follow Their Lead!

TITLE: Walking with God

Scripture: Heb. 11:5 (p.585); Genesis 5:18-24 (p.3)

“Faith is measured by your feet, not by your feelings.
It’s measured by what you do, not by what you say you’re going to do.” Evans

I. WALKING WITH GOD INTIMATELY

Intimacy-“belonging to or characterizing one’s deepest nature…marked by very close association, contact, or familiarity.”

“He walked with God”- the word walk expresses (moment by moment) fellowship with the Lord.

NT- “walk in the Spirit” or “walk by the Spirit”- that means you are (following Him) not Him (following you).

What does it mean to walk with God? To bring (Him and His viewpoint) into everything we think, say or do.

II. WALKING WITH GOD LOVINGLY

Two important words about John: (People change).

Here are three keys to understanding John (the individual):

        1. He learned to balance (truth and love).
        2. He learned to balance (ambition and humility).
        3. He learned to balance (suffering and glory).

SERIES: Follow Their Lead!

TITLE: Faith and Feet

Scripture: Heb. 11:8-10 (p.585); Acts 15:13-21 (p. 538)

I. WHAT’S FAITH GOT TO DO WITH IT?

“There are three important things about Abraham’s walk of faith that, if applied will, enable us to experience God at a whole new level. They involved Abraham leaving, living, and looking.” Evans

        1. (Leaving)- Genesis 12 (p.5)
        2. (Living)- Heb. 11:9
        3. (Looking)- Heb. 11:10

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (p.579)

SERIES: Follow Their Lead!

TITLE: Second Place

Scripture: Genesis 4:1-8; Heb. 11:4 (p.584); John 1:40-42

I. A MAN OF WORSHIP

When I say worship I am NOT talking about:

1) Your “favorite” (worship song)
2) Your “favorite” (worship leader)
3) How many times you say (Amen) or Praise the Lord.

Worship is not just (showing up) and singing a few songs or stanzas. It is a (lifestyle) lived
24/7/365. It is a life lived in (the presence of God). It is a life lived that gives verbal or visible
(recognition of God).
(What you bring) is not important; (how) you bring it is!

II. A MAN OF SMALL THINGS

Turn to John 1:35 (p.517)
What can we learn from Andrew?

1. He (valued) people.
2. He saw value in (small things).
3. He saw value in (doing) small things. Eph. 6:6 (p.569)

Scripture: Genesis 12-23; Acts 16:11-15

I. WAITING AND HOPING

A lesson Sarah teaches us: we may be stuck in emotions of disappointment, despair, a little hope, but (DO NOT) take matters (into your own hands).

Most important lesson: Don’t (give up hope).

        2. Eccl. 3:11 (p.319)

II. RESPONDING AND INVITING (Acts 16:3-15 (p.539)

In Lydia’s case there were two evidences of her faith:

        1. Her (baptism)
        2. Her (hospitality

Two costs Lydia was willing to pay:

        1. (Hospitality)
        2. Possible (imprisonment)

Her hospitality gave Paul’s group a (base of operations) for them to plant a church.
